I meant to update this earlier. Because I luff you.
But I'm slow. Anyone who's expecting an email from me knows what I'm talking about. But if you visit the awesome Serious Eats: New York (PLEASE VISIT; THEY PAY MY BILLS), you can read about the pork fat-tastic lechon kawali I had a Pistahan a few weeks ago. I plan on writing a fuller, more crazy-boppy entry about it, but I may not get to it for a while.
...Because I'm going to Virginia this weekend! Tomorrow it'll be me, Lee Anne, Tristan, and Lihan on the road to THE SOUTH. Yeah. To attend the Louisa County Agricultural Fair and camp in Tristan's backyard! And that's my 4-day vacation for the summer. So I better freakin' enjoy it.
I hope to return with tales of sheep and funnel cakes. Right on.

Yeah! I wanna set county fair eats! Deep fried stuff on a stick!
Does "lechon kawaii" mean "cute pork"? And quit beefing about the vacay. When I was your age, all I got was half a day on July 4th to shop at Macy's. (I might be making that up.)
I have never had funnel cake! I was so focused on elephant ears that I just didn't get to it.
Have a great time!
will they have pies???
PIES!
::ga-DUNK!::
Awesome! First you post a fabulous picture of lechon, and now you tell us you're going to be in Virginia this weekend! Coincidence that I'm filipina AND I'm from Charlottesville?
And thanks for the writeup on Aqui Es Mexico. My husband and I LOVE it there, and we would never have known it existed if it weren't for you and this blog. Yay for you!
You make me hungry. Have fun!
More Filipino food! Goodies!
I have totally converted to the dessert before the rest of the meal philosophy.
yay! vacation! sweet, sweet word... just like pork fat. hope you're having fun!
Have a great vaca Robyn! I saw your post on lechon kawali on SE:NY, and was thrilled to bits you loved it so. I just had a deep fried pig knuckle (or what we call crispy pata) late last night. When you finally find your way (road trip? heehee) to Manila, we'll make sure you chomp your way through all the crispy and porky food!
Su-Lin: I am so ready for FOOD ON A STICK. I think there will also be cakes and bbq and whatnot. Mmm.
Annie: Haha, it's soclose to being cute pork. Vacation is going well so far! We are COOKING A BIG FAT OF vegan friendly FOOD.
Christina: Oh no, you must try funnel cake before you diiie!
Alice: YES I think there's a pie contest! Eehee.
J F: You're from Charlottesville? I'm probably going there today! Maybe. Tristan has friends from there. Probably can't go back to Aqui Es Mexico (you'll have to thank Tristan for bringing ME there, haha) but I didn't get to try the gelato place in the downtown market..hm.
Yvo: The fun is being had!
Mahar: Maan we would be such good eating buddies if you lived here.. :(
Mila: I LOVE CRISPY PATA (having only eaten it once)!! Oh man. Ohhh man. I really wanna go to Manila, you know it!
What? Whaddawhat? You're going to the South without me? Bwaaaaa!
Ok, enough of that. Make sure you eat something very southern for me, and take notes for when we go there together!
Have a nice trip, Wobbyn! :)
That is beautiful. Like a plate of gold. Fatty fat fat gold. You really know how to put the salad I had for lunch to shame.
SHAME ON YOU SALAD, LOOK UPON THIS PORK AND KNOW YOUR BETTER.
/ drool
WHAT KINDER PAIS??!
PAIS!!!!
p.s. doan fergit to tupperware me summa them PAIS.
EW EW EW EW!!! are you TRYING to make me vomit?
THANK YOU TRISTAN for bringing Robyn to Aqui es Mexico! Yay for you, too!
Gelato sounds yummy. I've never had it, but it looks heavenly. If my friends and I can get our butts in gear, we'll be trying out the gelato place on the downtown mall soon. Yum...
Don't forget to make smores, even if you have to resort to using a lighter to toast the marshmallows in the backyard. Because it just isn't camping unless you have smores.

Morten: Ah, don't worry; I'm not in the DEEP south. I didn't really eat "southern" food. I'll wait until you get here to do that!
Carl: Salads commit suicide in the presence of this pork. Oooh yeaaah.
Alice: The fair wasn't selling any pies! Oh noes. But I think a pecan pie won first place in the pie contest. Mmm...pecaans...let's make a pie in our dinky Brooklyn apartments!
Olivia: AREN'T I ALWAYS?
J F: I went to Spledora's on Friday!...and it was just ok. It wasn't bad, or I figure it's the best you can get in C-ville, but the pistachio wasn't right. So sad! :( The best flavor I had was the cinnamon. The sorbet flavors seemed better than the gelatos.
Steph: Ahh, we didn't make s'mores, but we roasted marshmallows! I love me some crispy, carbonized marshmallow. :)
Fat. now that's a post I wanna read. Fat makes the world go round - imagine meat without it!!
Robin you would've been proud of me! I had chocolate chip cookies for breakfast...then a potato omelet. For lunch I had chocolate pudding...then curry. And for dinner, I had a peanut butter crepe...then beef rendang.
I think sweet food makes me crave savory food. Does that make sense?
Thanks for the heads-up! I will definitely try the cinnamon gelato if I ever make it there. Their website says they have zabaione gelato. Do you think it may be too much of a good thing? Maybe I'll take one for the team and test it out...
Have a great time! Looking forward to your post. We're off to Seattle ourselves, will check out Pike's Peak Market and all those terrific fish restaurants, not to mention the coffee. Happy to see a new city for a change! If anyone has tips, please post them on my blog!
Haha, Mahar! You should start a club, something along the lines of a dessert first- version of Sunday Pho :)
Leigh: Meat without fat is...PROTEIN. nooooo.
Mahar: That sounds so much better than what I ate today. Which was mostly a bagel and cream cheese. Grr.
J F: Let me know what you think of it!
Bonnie: Ah, I'd love to visit Seattle someday! Maybe next year....
