They're filled with a scant amount of filling (usually chocolate --in my case, sweet potato) but it's enough to get the flavor.

I've been reading your archives lately. Very entertaining. The first time I had these I was 4 living in Japan. My mom has a picture of me holding the koala box and stuffing the cookies in my mouth. The chocolate flavour is my favorite although the strawberry is not bad. I usually line them up and examine each one before devouring them and note the funny expressions they put on them. I found some about a month ago at an Asian market, went crazy, and bought all they had on the shelf. I have one box left. Mmmmm...chocolate koalas.

Aw, these remind me of my childhood. I haven't had them in years. When I was very young my mom would get them for the car ride to visit my Grandparents in Chicago. Oh, to be a happy child again. Now I suddenly have a craving for them, ha!

Lele: You should be able to find it at most Chinese and Japanese grocery stores. Or perhaps other Asian grocery stores. Hope you find it!
